Residents of communities in Nigeria’s North-Central state of Benue were thrown into fear and chaos after suspected armed herdsmen launched deadly attacks that left at least three people dead and several commuters abducted along major routes.
The violence reportedly targeted local communities and a police checkpoint, deepening fresh concerns over insecurity and recurring clashes in the region.
Eyewitnesses said gunmen stormed the affected areas, firing sporadically and forcing residents and travelers to flee for safety.

Security operatives were said to have responded after the attack, while efforts are ongoing to rescue those abducted by the assailants.
The latest assault adds to growing fears over worsening insecurity across parts of Nigeria, especially in Benue State, which has repeatedly witnessed deadly attacks linked to armed groups and farmer-herder conflicts.
Authorities have assured residents that investigations and security operations are ongoing to track down those responsible and restore calm in the affected communities.
