Edo Court Hands Down Different Sentences In Kidnap Case Four Men Tried

The Edo State Special Criminal Court has sentenced four men over their involvement in the kidnapping of a woman at Vegetable Market, along Airport Road in Benin City, Edo State.

The judgment was delivered on Tuesday by Justice Aigbona Momodu.

The defendants are Marvellous Isaac, Wisdom Michael, Rufus Emete Michael and Gift Raphael. They were tried on an 11-count charge.

Different Charges, Different Sentences

The court handed down different sentences on the various counts against the defendants.

The sentences included seven years’ imprisonment, life imprisonment and death sentences on specified counts, depending on the charges and findings against each defendant.

Judge Says His Hands Were Tied While delivering the judgment, Justice Momodu reportedly became emotional.

He explained that there was little he could do because the law did not permit him to act otherwise, saying that his hands were tied by the law.

The case involved the kidnapping of the woman at Vegetable Market along Airport Road in Benin City.
