Ransom Leaves Families In Heavy Debt

Some families of the rescued National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members reportedly paid millions of naira while trying to secure the release of their loved ones.

According to the information gathered, some families paid more than ₦3 million, while others reportedly paid up to ₦6 million before their loved ones were released.

One of the mothers who spoke about the situation explained that she did everything possible to raise the money needed. She said she had to borrow money before she was eventually able to get the amount required.

According to her, after getting the money, she sent someone to Imo State to deliver the ransom in an effort to secure the release of her loved one.

The woman, who described herself as a common farmer, said the financial struggle did not end after the ransom was paid. She explained that she was left with another difficult responsibility looking for money to repay the money she had borrowed.

For the family, what started as an attempt to save a loved one has now left them facing another serious financial burden.
