Burley Raises Fresh Question Over Ronaldo’s Portugal Role

According to Next Africa Daily Sport, former Chelsea player Craig Burley has backed Jorge Jesus amid the dispute involving Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portugal national team coach.

The former Scotland midfielder said Cristiano Ronaldo should not continue as Portugal’s main striker at his present age.

“I have been beating this drum for quite some time now. Not as many Ronaldo fans think we dislike or hate him. The fact is, analyse the team, any player,” Burley said.

He added that his objection is based on the view that a player in his 40s cannot continue to lead the line against some of the major countries in European football, if not the world.

Portugal later defeated Denmark 4-2 without Cristiano Ronaldo, with Joao Cancelo, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha and Joao Felix scoring for Portugal.
