The person you overlook today may be the person you need tomorrow. Human beings have a habit of judging people by what they can see at the moment. We look at a child's performance, background, behaviour or circumstances and quickly decide who deserves our attention and who does not.
But the future does not always follow the judgement of the present.
This is particularly important for parents and guardians. A child who lives under your roof but was not born by you should never be treated as though they are less important. Being a biological parent is not the only thing that determines how a child deserves to be treated.
Every child deserves dignity, care, guidance and the opportunity to discover their potential.
The same principle applies within families. Parents should be careful about favouring one child over another. The child receiving the most attention today may not necessarily be the child who achieves the most tomorrow.
Sometimes, the child who is constantly overlooked is the one carrying an ability nobody has taken the time to discover.
A child may not be the best student in the family. Another may be quiet and difficult to understand. Another may not yet know what they are good at. But none of these things should become an excuse to write them off.
Potential does not always announce itself early. This is where families and societies sometimes make a dangerous mistake. We celebrate what is already visible and ignore what is still developing.

We praise the child who is already performing well, while the child who needs encouragement is left behind. We invest attention in the talent we can immediately recognise while neglecting the talent that has not yet had the opportunity to grow.
But what if the overlooked child becomes an inventor, teacher, entrepreneur, leader, artist, scientist or problem-solver tomorrow? What if the ability we dismissed is exactly the ability our community will eventually need?
This is not an argument for treating every child as though they are the same. Children have different personalities, abilities and needs. But difference should never become a reason for discrimination.
Parents can correct without humiliating. They can discipline without destroying confidence. They can encourage one child without making another feel worthless.
And guardians must remember something equally important: a child should never have to earn basic love and dignity by proving their usefulness first.
The world has lost too much potential simply because someone was overlooked too early. So before you decide that a child is not important, before you dismiss someone's ability, before you compare one person with another, remember this:
You are looking at their present. You are not looking at their entire future.
The person you underestimate today may be the person whose talent the world needs tomorrow. And the child you failed to value may one day become the person everyone wishes they had believed in.
