Nigeria’s security agencies have recorded a major breakthrough in the investigation into a deadly shooting involving a Delta State police officer, as police confirmed the arrest of a suspected arms supplier based in Bayelsa State.
According to preliminary findings, the suspect is believed to have played a key role in supplying the firearm used in the incident that led to the killing, an event that has triggered nationwide concern over the rising flow of illegal weapons within the Niger Delta region.
Security officials say the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation aimed at dismantling criminal supply chains responsible for arming violent groups and fueling unrest in parts of southern Nigeria.
Investigators are now working to trace wider connections, including possible collaborators and distribution routes used to move illegal firearms across state lines.
