Argentina, France tipped as World Cup favourites by football fan

The World Cup has continued to produce exciting matches and surprise results as the tournament moves on, with football enthusiast Aaron Michael Abbey saying Argentina and France are the teams that have impressed him the most so far.

Abbey shared his thoughts in a WhatsApp voice-note interview conducted by Uchechi Okporie at about 8pm Monday from Port Harcourt. He spoke about how the tournament has been so competitive and how every team seems to be pushing hard to win the trophy.

According to him, it has not been easy to predict what will happen in the competition because all the teams are prepared and playing with strong determination. “Every country came prepared,” he said during the interview.

He explained that even though it is still early to fully decide who will win the tournament, Argentina and France have shown more quality compared to other teams. He said both sides look confident and have been performing well in their matches.

Abbey also mentioned Ghana when talking about the weekend games. He said the team tried their best and showed a good level of fighting spirit despite the pressure of the tournament.

On players that have impressed him, he mentioned Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappé. He said they have all continued to perform well for their national teams and also at club level.

He also talked about the 2026 World Cup final between Argentina and France, describing it as one of the most interesting matches he has watched.

He said the game showed how strong both teams are, especially with how it ended 3–3 before Argentina eventually won on penalties.

Abbey said he still hopes African teams can go far in the tournament. He mentioned countries like Morocco, Ivory Coast and Egypt, saying he would like to see them reach the knockout stage and compete strongly with bigger teams.

He added that if African teams do well, it will be good for football on the continent.

As the tournament continues, Abbey said he is expecting more interesting matches and surprises before it finally ends.
