Corruption Keeps Voters Tied to Failed Leaders

Corruption is one of the problems affecting politics in Africa. Some politicians know how to attract voters through promises, gifts and other benefits during election campaigns.

A politician may promise to provide jobs, improve roads and make life easier for citizens. Many people believe these promises and hope that things will change when the politician comes into power.

However, when the promises are not fulfilled, some voters still support the same politicians during another election.

One reason is that some citizens believe that whatever they receive from politicians during elections is the only benefit they can get. This mindset makes it difficult for some people to look beyond temporary benefits and consider whether a politician has performed well.

Even when the media and online platforms continue to educate citizens about making better electoral choices, changing this mindset remains a challenge.

Until voters begin to pay more attention to politicians' performance and hold them accountable for their promises, the same pattern may continue.
