Court Bars Jonathan Akuns From Presenting Himself as NDC

Governorship Candidate in Plateau The Federal High Court sitting in Jos, Plateau State, has stopped Jonathan Akuns from presenting himself as the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 election in Plateau State.

Justice S.T. Ishaly issued the order on September 28, 2026, in a case marked FHC/J/CS/87/2026. Akuns is listed as the first defendant in the case, while the NDC is the second defendant and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is also listed as a defendant.

The order prevents Akuns from presenting himself as the NDC governorship candidate for Plateau State. However, the order does not amount to a final decision on who should hold the NDC governorship ticket in Plateau State.

The decision and order are therefore not the final determination of who will hold the NDC governorship ticket in the state for the 2027 election.
