Kwankwaso Speaks on Fuel Subsidy Plan

The Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said the party would bring back fuel subsidy in a different form if it wins the 2027 presidential election.

Kwankwaso made this known during an interview on Arise TV on Tuesday, September 22, while speaking about Nigeria’s economy and the rising cost of fuel.

He said the NDC would have its own way of handling fuel subsidy, while also working to increase local refining in the country. According to him, government can invest in refineries and support more local production so that Nigerians will not continue to depend heavily on imported fuel.

Kwankwaso also criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s handling of the economy, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy shortly after he assumed office.

He said the decision has contributed to the economic difficulties facing Nigerians, adding that an NDC government would work towards making fuel available to Nigerians at a more reasonable price.

The former Kano State governor said the aim would not only be to reduce the pressure on Nigerians but also to develop the country’s ability to produce and refine its own fuel.
