Lafia, Nasarawa State In a bold move to ease the financial burden on politicians seeking public office, the Nasarawa State chapter of the Labour Party (LP), loyal to the Julius Abure-led faction, has begun distributing free expression of interest and nomination forms for governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly seats.
State party chairman, Alexander Ombugu, announced the gesture during a press briefing at the party’s secretariat in Lafia on Friday.
He explained that the decision was aimed at cushioning the effects of economic hardship and giving intending aspirants a fair chance to contest for various elective positions regardless of their financial status.
“I have the mandate to fill in our candidates, and we are doing our best. These forms will be presented free of charge to all our aspirants. Many political parties sell their forms at high prices, but the Labour Party belongs to the people,” Ombugu said.
He added that the party remains committed to fielding candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections, despite the ongoing leadership tussle between the Julius Abure-led faction and the camp loyal to former Finance Minister, Senator Nenadi Usman.
Ombugu called on politicians with proven integrity to pick up the forms and submit them within INEC’s stipulated timeframe.
He also assured that the party’s primaries would be credible and rancour-free.
