What University Life Taught Me - UNIBEN Health Education Graduate Shares Life Experience on Campus

A Health Education graduate from the University of Benin, Egure Jeremiah Ozavogu, has shared his experience about life in the university, describing it as both fun and stressful.

Speaking with Next Africa Daily in a voice-note interview, Ozavogu said entering the university was like entering a new world because he had to adjust to a different lifestyle and meet new people.

According to him, the transition was not easy, especially in his first year when he had to travel from home to school because of the distance.

"My university experience was fun, but it was also stressful. I had to adapt to a new environment and a new way of life," he said.

Ozavogu explained that one of the interesting parts of university life was meeting new friends, participating in group work and presentations, and learning how to relate with different kinds of people.

Ozavogu, who just completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), told Next Africa Daily that at first everything looked strange, including the buildings, departments and people, but with time he became familiar with the environment.

Talking about academics, the Health Education graduate said students face many challenges such as attending lectures, meeting deadlines for assignments and projects, and preparing for examinations.

He also stated that the education system has some challenges because students sometimes have to learn many things on their own outside the classroom.

Despite the difficulties, Ozavogu said the university experience gave him the opportunity to discover himself, improve his confidence and develop his social skills.

"Everybody has different abilities. University gives people the chance to show what they can do," he said.

Advising young people who are preparing to enter the university, Ozavogu encouraged them to understand their interests before choosing a course of study.

He also advised students to learn useful skills such as graphic design, computer operations and other vocational skills that could help them while in school.

According to him, students should always remain positive, respectful and hardworking no matter the situation they find themselves.

"Be positive, work hard and work smart. If you want to succeed, make sure you understand what you are studying very well," he advised.

Ozavogu's experience shows that university life comes with both opportunities and challenges, but students can succeed if they remain focused, determined and willing to learn.

Water is one of those things many of us rarely think about until it is no longer available. We turn on a tap, fill a bucket, take a bath, wash our clothes, and move on with our day.
