Nigeria’s political atmosphere has been shaken after Aloy Ejimakor, lawyer to detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, issued a strong warning that President Bola Tinubu and South-East politicians may suffer major political consequences in the 2027 general elections if Kanu is not released.
Ejimakor stated that many people in the South-East remain deeply concerned over Kanu’s continued detention and may use their votes in 2027 to express their anger.
His comments have reignited national debate over the long-running case, which has remained one of Nigeria’s most controversial political and legal issues.

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has a loyal support base across parts of the South-East, while critics blame his movement for insecurity and unrest in the region.
His detention continues to divide public opinion across Nigeria. The warning now places fresh pressure on Tinubu’s administration as political alliances slowly begin to form ahead of the next election cycle.
