A major national debate has erupted in Nigeria after retired police commissioner Fatai Owoseni urged state governors to stop relying on Abuja and take immediate action against growing insecurity.
Owoseni said governors already have the power, resources, and local intelligence needed to combat banditry, kidnappings, and violent attacks in their states, warning that constant dependence on the federal government is delaying solutions.
He stressed that real security must come from community trust, stronger intelligence gathering, and leaders being physically present in their states rather than waiting for directives from the center.
