Mohammed Abacha Loses Again as Dalhatu Clinches PDP Governorship Ticket in Kano

Muhammad Dalhatu has won the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State, defeating Mohammed Abacha, the eldest son of Nigeria’s late military Head of State, General Sani Abacha.

Announcing the results on Monday, the Chairman of the PDP Kano State Governorship Primary Election Committee, Umar Hadejia, said the exercise was peaceful, transparent, and conducted in line with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.

According to the final tally, Abacha polled 749 votes, while Dalhatu secured 2,233 votes to emerge the winner.

“Having scored the highest number of valid votes cast, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Dalhatu is hereby declared the winner of the PDP governorship primary election and consequently returned as the party’s candidate for Kano State,” Hadejia stated.

He commended all aspirants, delegates, party officials, and security agencies for their cooperation and maturity, and urged party members to unite for victory in the forthcoming general elections.

This is not the first setback for Abacha. He previously contested the PDP’s governorship ticket in 2023 but lost to Sadiq Aminu Wali following a legal dispute between parallel party factions. He was also the governorship candidate of the Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA) in the 2019 Kano State election.
