Students in Ebonyi State Call for Better Electricity, Say Businesses Are Failing Over Poor Power Supply

Residents of Ishieke community in Ebonyi State, Nigeria have appealed to the government and electricity authorities to improve power supply in the area, saying the current situation is making life difficult for students, business owners, and families.

Speaking in an interview with Next Africa Daily, Priscilla Chidimma Akuma, a student of Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, expressed concern over the irregular electricity supply in the community.

According to her, electricity has remained one of the major challenges facing residents in the area.

She explained that although there was electricity on Saturday and Sunday, the supply was not steady on Friday. She said residents often receive different explanations whenever there is power outage, but the problem continues to affect their daily lives.

She noted that students are among those suffering the most from the poor power supply.

According to her, many students rely on electricity to study at night, charge their devices, and carry out other academic activities. Some students, she noted, also use hot plates in their hostels to prepare meals, making electricity an important part of their daily lives.

She also pointed out that several small businesses in the area depend on electricity to operate. Laundry operators, tailors, and hairdressers, she said, need constant power to serve their customers and earn a living.

The resident called on the government to come to the aid of the community and ensure that residents enjoy a more reliable electricity supply. She also appealed to those responsible for electricity distribution to take the complaints of residents seriously and work towards finding a lasting solution.

She said stable electricity does not only make life easier for residents but also help businesses grow and support the development of the community.

Many residents share similar concerns and hope that the relevant authorities will respond to their appeal in order to improve living conditions in Ishieke community.

...But Why are Nigerians in Their Thousands Migrating to South Africa, a Fellow African Nation?... This Research Answers The Question

I just did a quick research on South Africa. For days or weeks I've been wondering what's special about South Africa that almost every African country has their nationals in South Africa more than any other country in the African continent. My instinct was telling me that there's something special that's attracting people from other African countries, especially Nigeria and Ghana, to South Africa.
