A fiery Nigerian cleric, Bishop David Ibiyeomie, has cautioned Nigerians against voting people who have no good intentions for the country. He advised voters not to sell their conscience as they prepare for the 2027 general elections.
He said: "Listen let me say this, many of you collect money to go and vote. I hear people say, na money I go chop. The money you ate before, it's only for one week it will last you, or even one day. What of the remaining four years?"
He continued: "Never sell your conscience for money. Nigerians hear me, na who give me money I go vote, after you eat that day, won’t you eat again? It’s time not to sell your conscience."
He warned against voting for parties but Nigerians should vote for credible individuals who can deliver the nation.
He called on Nigerians to "stand up and react against whoever wants to oppress you. Look, the revolution from the masses is the worst revolution. When they stood up against Sadam Hussein they could not withtand it".
"When they stood up against Tunisia government, they could not stand it. When they stood up against Babangida government, powerful Babangida could not stand it. That is the power of the masses.
"This time vote who can deliver, anybody who can do what? Vote who can deliver. I am not a politician, I have never been one but if you vote because they give you money, you will suffer.
"I do not mean you. I mean those who take money. Judiciary has messed the system up. Though some decent ones are still in the judiciary. For the first time, stand for the truth."
He told the congregation that the day they will die they will mention their name for good, for defending what's right in the face of hardship.
He cautioned judges who preside over political cases to be cautious. He said judges should be mindful of what they would be remembered for in time to come.
In his words: "When they leave they will say this judge was so corrupt. Do you like that kind of testimony?" He advised them to maintain integrity and free their hands from corruption and oppression.
He warned against pastors who pray for people whom they know are corrupt. He said it is wrong for pastors to support people who they know cannot deliver the goodies of democracy to the citizens
"Some of us pastors are praying for the wrong people. We know this man cannot deliver, we still pray for him. This is not good.
"Do not pray for a man who cannot deliver, pray for a man who has conscience. Who has what it takes to deliver. If you like take it, I don talk my own."
