Wike And The Battle For PDP’s Relevance

Something is changing in Nigeria’s political space, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, cannot afford to ignore it.

PDP was once one of the biggest forces in Nigerian politics. The party had powerful politicians, strong structures and a large following. But today, the political ground is changing. APC remains a major force, while ADC and other emerging platforms are also attracting attention.

This brings me to Nyesom Wike. Wike remains one of the biggest names associated with PDP, yet he is now openly supporting President Bola Tinubu, who belongs to another political party. That situation should make PDP leaders pause and ask an important question: what is happening to the strength and direction of the party? This is not a call to attack Wike. It is a call to reflection.

A political party cannot remain strong simply because it once dominated the political space. Its leaders must continue to build, organise, unite and give people a reason to believe in the party.

PDP still has experienced politicians and a history that cannot simply be erased. But experience alone is not enough. The party needs renewed energy, stronger unity and a clear direction.

Wike and other PDP leaders have a role to play in this. If the party is losing ground, this is the moment to look inward and ask what can be done differently.

The question is no longer only about who is supporting whom. The bigger question is: where is PDP going, and who is ready to fight to keep the party relevant?
