Obafemi Hamzat, Deputy Governor of Lagos State, has confirmed his endorsement as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 governorship election by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Hamzat described the endorsement by the Nigerian leader as a “vote of confidence” and a significant moment in his political career.
He expressed gratitude for the backing of Tinubu, who remains a dominant figure within the All Progressives Congress and widely regarded as a key architect of Lagos State’s modern political structure.
“Today, I received the endorsement of our leader and the President of Nigeria… as the official APC candidate for the 2027 Lagos Governorship election,” Hamzat said, acknowledging both the honor and the responsibility attached to the decision.
Hamzat emphasized continuity, pledging to build on the developmental framework established under Tinubu’s leadership in Lagos.
He described the state as “an ongoing project” and positioned it as a benchmark for development across Nigeria.

“Lagos State is the yardstick for development and progress. There is still a lot of work ahead, we have an election to win and a legacy to protect,” he added.
Political analysts view the endorsement as a strategic move within the APC to consolidate its longstanding dominance in Lagos politics ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, continues to wield significant influence over the state’s political direction.
Hamzat, an academic-turned-politician, has served as deputy governor since 2019 and is widely recognized for his role in policy implementation, particularly in infrastructure and technology-driven governance initiatives.
While the 2027 election is less than a year, Hamzat’s early endorsement signals the beginning of what is expected to be a closely watched political contest in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
