Senator Natasha Declares for 2027 Kogi Central Senatorial Race, Says Her Endorsement Overwhelming

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has formally signaled her intention to seek re-election in the 2027 senatorial race, following what she described as “overwhelming endorsements” from constituents across Kogi Central.

In a statement addressed to indigenes of the district, the lawmaker expressed appreciation for the growing calls urging her to continue in office, declaring her readiness to remain on the ballot.

“With deep gratitude, I hear your call and overwhelming endorsements to contest for the 2027 Kogi Central Senatorial Elections. My response is ‘YES’,” she stated.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, who currently represents the district in the Nigerian Senate, emphasized her commitment to sustained public service, pledging to build on her legislative efforts and constituency engagements.

“I pledge to remain steadfast in my commitment to serve you all with even greater purpose. Under God, for people, for country… 2027,” the statement concluded.

Her declaration comes amid early political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria, where incumbents and challengers alike are beginning to consolidate grassroots support.

Akpoti-Uduaghan emerged as a prominent political figure following her victory in the 2023 senatorial elections, where she secured the Kogi Central seat after a closely watched contest.

Her campaign was marked by strong advocacy on issues such as infrastructure development, industrialization, and women’s political participation.

Before her senatorial tenure, she gained national recognition for her activism in the revival of the Ajaokuta Steel Company and her consistent engagement on economic development issues affecting Kogi State.

Her political trajectory has positioned her as one of the more visible female voices in Nigeria’s National Assembly.

Kogi Central, largely populated by the Ebira ethnic group, remains a politically strategic district within Kogi State.

Elections in the area are often competitive, with strong voter mobilization and significant influence on statewide political dynamics.

While the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has yet to release the official timetable for the 2027 elections, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s early declaration may shape the political landscape in the district.

Analysts suggest that incumbency advantage, combined with visible constituency projects and sustained grassroots engagement, could play a decisive role in her re-election bid.

Her announcement is also expected to trigger responses from opposition figures and potential challengers within the district, setting the stage for what may become another highly contested senatorial race.

For now, her message appears focused on continuity, anchored on service, faith, and national development, as she positions herself for another term in office.

From Brothers to Burdens: Why Nigerians Are No Longer Welcome in South Africa, Ghana - The Sad Story

Across parts of Africa, a troubling pattern has emerged: periodic waves of hostility directed at Nigerians living and working in other African countries. In South Africa, it has manifested in violent xenophobic attacks; in Ghana, tensions have surfaced through business closures and regulatory crackdowns. The rhetoric is familiar—“they should go back home.” But beneath that language lies a far more complex and uncomfortable reality than simple dislike of a nationality. This moment is not just about Nigerians; it is about economics, identity, governance failure, and the unfinished project of African unity.
