Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has called for unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, urging party members to move beyond the controversies surrounding the 2023 governorship election and focus on future electoral success.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, Omo-Agege reacted to remarks reportedly made by Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, during a lecture in Lagos titled “Inclusive Governance and National Unity: Lessons from Delta State for a United Nigeria.”
The former Senate leader referenced the governor’s comments on the 2023 election but chose a conciliatory tone, emphasizing party cohesion over political rivalry.
Omo-Agege noted that while he might have responded differently if both leaders were still in opposing parties, their current alignment under the APC necessitates restraint and collaboration.
“What Delta APC needs today is not division, but unity,” he stated, reaffirming his commitment to ensuring victory for all APC candidates in future elections, from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to state-level contenders.
Addressing the disputed 2023 governorship election, Omo-Agege acknowledged the finality of the Supreme Court’s ruling, which upheld Oborevwori’s victory.
He reiterated his respect for the judicial process and dismissed further public debate on the matter as unproductive.
“Re-litigating the matter in the media or at public events serves no useful purpose,” he said, while again congratulating the governor on his win.
Despite conceding defeat, the former deputy senate president highlighted his own political strength, citing the over 240,000 votes he secured in Delta Central.
He expressed gratitude to his supporters and pledged continued service to the people of the state.

Since the conclusion of the 2023 elections, Omo-Agege said his primary focus has been fostering unity within the APC in Delta State.
He called on Governor Oborevwori, now the party’s state leader, to join efforts toward reconciliation and inclusive governance, warning against actions that could deepen internal divisions.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Omo-Agege emphasized the importance of a united front, stating that only a cohesive APC can secure victory across all levels.
He disclosed that he had made a personal commitment to President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima to work collaboratively with the governor in achieving this goal.
In a direct message to his supporters, Omo-Agege urged restraint and civility in political engagement, encouraging them to campaign based on his legislative record.
He highlighted key achievements during his tenure in the National Assembly, including contributions to the establishment of major institutions such as the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun, the Federal Polytechnic Orogun, and the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences Kwale.
He also pointed to his role in facilitating the Oil and Gas Industrial Park in Delta State and the Nigerian Defence Space School, describing them as part of a “legacy of bold, transformative leadership.”
Concluding his statement, Omo-Agege called on party members and stakeholders to prioritize unity over division, stressing that internal cohesion would be critical to electoral success in 2027.
“Let us choose unity over division. Let us choose victory over vendetta,” he said.
