Chinda’s 2027 Ticket Faces Supreme Court Test

The Supreme Court judgment delivered on September 24, 2026, has raised a fresh legal question over the 2027 governorship candidacy of Rivers State APC candidate, Hon. Kingsley Chinda.

Chinda, a member of the House of Representatives, was reported to have registered with the APC on April 27, 2026, ahead of the party’s governorship primary.

The judgment referred to Sections 77(5) and (6) of the Electoral Act, which require political parties to submit their verified register of members to INEC at least 21 days before conducting their primary election.

Chinda was declared the winner of the APC governorship primary held on May 21. However, his defection was announced at the Green Chamber after he had already been declared the winner of the primary.

The development has now raised questions over whether the Supreme Court decision could have a legal implication for Chinda’s candidacy ahead of the 2027 Rivers State governorship election.
