I'll Never Fly Abroad for Holidays or Medical Treatment if Elected President - Peter Obi

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi on Thursday lambasted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for traveling abroad and leaving the country without a leader.

He said it was wrong for a president to travel out of the country on holiday, noting that if elected president in January 2027 presidential polls, he would not travel on vacation out of the country.

Rather he said he would spend his vacations in Nigeria, naming specifically Agbor in Ika South and Warri, the commercial nerve of Delta state.

Peter Obi spoke when he commissioned the Delta state NDC campaign headquarters in Asaba. He was in Asaba with the state NDC governorship candidate, Chris Iyovwaye, Delta North senatorial candidate, Victor Ochei, Delta Central senatorial candidate, Ovie Omo-Agege, and a handful of other candidates of the party for the 2027 general elections.

Obi, who was received with mammoth crowd at the state campaign headquarters, also said if elected president in 2027, he would ensure all health institutions in Nigeria are put to maximum use.

He said he would ensure no government official flies abroad for treatment, rather only referrals would be allowed out of the country. This he said because he would ensure all Nigerian health institutions would be upgraded to serve Nigerians better.

In his words: "Today our president is in France. He went for three weeks holiday, he has stayed more than three weeks. He is in France when people are dying in Nigeria. He is in France when people are being kidnapped in Nigeria.

"I've said it that as president of Nigeria, all my holidays will be in Nigeria. I will go to Agbor for holiday. I will go to Warri for holiday, not France. We will ensure that people in government must seek medical care here in Nigeria.

"Anybody that will go abroad will be on referrals. Not when you have headache you go abroad. We will fix our hospitals here. We will make them work

"We are people who believe in change. One thing I can assure Niger Delta is that the days when you do not see the impact of your wealth is gone. Niger Delta must see the impact of the wealth it is creating for the nation

"We cannot drive on east west road. We cannot even past Asaba. Yet it is Niger Delta that is producing the wealth we share every month. This has to end."

The commissioning drew mammoth crowd from across the state who waited patiently for hours for Peter Obi's arrival.

It is expected that now that the campaign headquarters has been commissioned, campaign activities are set to begin with Chris Iyovwaye the governorship candidate at the centre of events.
