Nigeria School Bullying Video Sparks Global Outrage as Students Face Juvenile Court By International Desk

Authorities in southern Nigeria have arrested several students after a disturbing video showing the assault of a fellow pupil went viral, triggering outrage across the country and beyond.

The footage, widely circulated on social media, shows a group of students physically attacking a schoolmate, prompting swift intervention by law enforcement and education officials.

Police confirmed that all individuals involved have been identified and taken into custody. Due to their age, the suspects will be prosecuted through the juvenile justice system, in accordance with Nigerian child protection laws.

The incident occurred at a private secondary school in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, and has reignited debate over student safety, discipline, and accountability within the country’s education system.

Officials said preliminary findings suggest the violence stemmed from a dispute among students that escalated into repeated acts of aggression. Authorities also indicated that further investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack.

The Edo State government has strongly condemned the incident, describing it as “deeply troubling” and inconsistent with the values of a safe learning environment. School authorities have since taken disciplinary action against those involved.

In response to the incident, officials say efforts are being intensified to strengthen school safety frameworks, including renewed enforcement of the Safe Schools Initiative and increased awareness campaigns against bullying and violence.

The case has drawn widespread reactions from the public, with many calling for stricter measures to protect students and prevent similar incidents in the future.
