Nigeria’s opposition landscape is on the brink of a major realignment, with Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso expected to announce a new political platform in a move that could reshape the 2027 presidential contest.
The development was revealed by Buba Galadima, who disclosed that both political heavyweights are set to formally unveil their new alliance following days of intense behind-the-scenes negotiations.
According to Galadima, the announcement signals a decisive break from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where internal tensions and competing ambitions particularly around the presidential ticket have deepened divisions within the opposition bloc.

Sources indicate the new platform could be tied to an emerging coalition aimed at consolidating opposition strength ahead of the 2027 elections.
The move comes amid growing calls for unity among Nigeria’s fragmented opposition, with analysts warning that division could once again weaken their chances at the polls.
If confirmed, the Obi Kwankwaso alliance could mark one of the most consequential political mergers in recent Nigerian history potentially redefining electoral dynamics across Africa’s largest democracy.
