The All Progressives Congress in Enugu State has declared the winners of its senatorial primary elections for the 2027 National Assembly polls, with Senator Osita Ngwu, Senator Kelvin Chukwu, and Chief Ikeje Asogwa emerging victorious in their respective districts.
The results of the primaries, conducted across the state on Monday, were announced on Tuesday at the party’s state secretariat in Enugu by the Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Elections Committee, Rt. Hon. Solomon Funkekeme.
Funkekeme described the exercise as peaceful and orderly, commending party members for their conduct throughout the process. He also praised Governor Peter Mbah for creating what he called a conducive atmosphere for the elections, while acknowledging the role of APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Ben Nwoye, in ensuring the success of the exercise.
In the Enugu West Senatorial District, Senator Osita Ngwu secured victory with 70,015 votes. For Enugu East, Senator Kelvin Chukwu defeated Nnaji Shalom Nwakaego by a wide margin, polling 111,743 votes against 482. Meanwhile, Chief Ikeje Asogwa clinched the Enugu North Senatorial ticket after receiving 125,089 votes from the district’s 152,886 registered party members.
Other contenders in the race included Dr. Ugo Ugwuanyi, Chinazo Eze, and Princess Edith Ugwuanyi, who recorded significantly lower vote totals.

Speaking during the announcement, APC State Chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, said the declaration marked the completion of the party’s senatorial primary process, which began across the state’s 260 wards.
He added that primaries for the State House of Assembly would hold on Wednesday, while governorship and presidential primaries are scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
Reacting on behalf of the successful aspirants, Ngwu appreciated party leaders and members for their trust and support. He also praised Governor Mbah for fostering unity and stability within the APC in Enugu.
Calling for reconciliation after the contest, Ngwu urged unsuccessful aspirants and their supporters to unite in preparation for the 2027 general elections, stressing that the party would campaign on the achievements of Governor Mbah’s administration.
