Former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized growing calls for a southern-only presidency ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections, warning that identity-driven politics could weaken the opposition and hand victory to the ruling camp.
Atiku argued that competence, national unity and electability should take priority over regional power rotation, as opposition parties continue negotiations over possible alliances to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
