The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State has officially elected Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohammed Ahmed, and Jerry Damara as its candidates for the 2026 senatorial elections.
Labiru Musa, Chairman of the APC Gombe State Primary Election Committee, announced the results during a press briefing on Tuesday at the Press Centre in Gombe. He described Monday’s direct primary elections across the state as peaceful, orderly, and transparent.
Musa noted that the exercise fully complied with the directives of the party’s National Working Committee, enabling grassroots members to participate directly. “Operational transparency was strictly secured through a rigorous, standardised layout,” he said.
He added that the committee enforced a mandatory accreditation process starting at 8:00 am at ward levels. “Voting eligibility was strictly tied to the mandatory presentation of a valid APC membership card, successfully eliminating external infiltration and protecting the sanctity of the ballot,” Musa stated.
According to the results, Governor Yahaya won the Gombe North Senatorial District ticket with 131,009 affirmation votes.

Retired DCP Mohammed Ahmed secured the Gombe Central Senatorial District ticket with 89,415 valid votes, while Jerry Joseph Damara clinched the Gombe South Senatorial District ticket with 56,687 votes.
Musa explained that declarations were made at zonal collation centres immediately after the collation process, in line with party guidelines and electoral regulations.
“Having satisfied all necessary requirements and scored the highest number of valid votes cast in their respective districts, these winners were rightfully declared on the field immediately after collation,” he said.
“The committee fully stands by these decentralised field declarations, which confirm them as the official flag bearers of the All Progressives Congress for the upcoming elections,” he added.
The committee chairman commended Governor Yahaya, APC leadership in the state, security agencies, and journalists for what he described as a “transparent, highly credible and world-class democratic exercise.”
