Tension has reached a critical point in Lagos State ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries, as rival political camps in Surulere exchange serious allegations over an alleged coordinated plan to trigger violence and disrupt the electoral process.
A pressure group, Surulere Accountability Front (SAF), accused supporters linked to a camp associated with Desmond Elliot of allegedly importing non-residents into Surulere to influence the outcome of the primaries and destabilise voting across key wards.
The group described the situation as a “calculated attempt to hijack the democratic process,” warning that any breakdown of order could lead to chaos, voter intimidation, and loss of credibility in the party’s internal elections. It called on security agencies and APC national leadership to act swiftly to prevent escalation.
The allegations immediately triggered a strong backlash from the lawmaker’s camp, which dismissed the claims as “baseless, politically engineered propaganda.”

Surulere, a politically strategic constituency in Lagos, has become a high-tension flashpoint as aspirants intensify last-minute mobilisation efforts, raising concerns over potential factional clashes within the party.
Political analysts say the confrontation underscores deeper cracks within the APC’s grassroots structure in Lagos, where internal ticket battles often escalate into fierce rivalry, competing claims of legitimacy, and heightened electoral tension.
Despite the charged atmosphere, both sides have publicly urged restraint among supporters, while party leaders work behind the scenes to contain the dispute and safeguard the credibility and peaceful conduct of the primaries across the state.
