The stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe State have unanimously backed Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai as the party’s consensus candidate for the Yobe South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement came after a series of consultations involving party leaders, elders, and political stakeholders across the district, a move party loyalists said was aimed at strengthening unity and avoiding internal disagreements within the APC.
The affirmation event was held on Monday at the Federal College of Education Multipurpose Hall in Potiskum Local Government Area and was overseen by Buba Mashio. It attracted APC leaders, youth groups, supporters, and stakeholders from different local government areas within Yobe South.
According to party officials, Bomai’s adoption followed broad consultations intended to ensure party cohesion and a smooth political process ahead of the polls. The senator had earlier stepped down from the Yobe governorship race before emerging as the consensus choice for the senatorial seat.
Supporters expressed optimism in Bomai’s ability to continue representing the district effectively, pointing to his political experience and contributions to the growth of the APC in Yobe State.

Speaking after his endorsement, Bomai appreciated party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters for their trust, pledging to remain committed to the development and representation of Yobe South.
He also praised fellow aspirants and party members for maintaining peace and unity during the consultation process, describing their conduct as a demonstration of loyalty to the APC. He urged supporters and stakeholders to continue working together to strengthen the party’s chances in future elections.
Political observers believe Bomai’s emergence as a consensus candidate could help reduce internal tensions within the APC in Yobe South, a region widely regarded as one of the party’s strongholds.
If re-elected in 2027, Bomai would become the first senator from Yobe South to serve three consecutive terms in the National Assembly.
