Tension is rising inside Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress amid growing fears that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may face a far tougher road to victory in the 2027 presidential election than he did in 2023.
The conversation, now gaining momentum within political circles, centers on whether Tinubu can repeat the 10.99 million votes that delivered him to power as Nigerians continue to battle economic hardship, insecurity and widespread frustration over rising living costs.
Power brokers within the APC are said to be closely monitoring the political atmosphere as early alignments and underground negotiations ahead of the party’s future presidential primary begin to unfold.
While party loyalists insist Tinubu still commands a powerful nationwide structure capable of defeating any opposition force, concerns reportedly remain over public anger in several parts of the country.

Political analysts believe the ruling party is entering a critical phase where every major decision taken by the government before 2027 could either strengthen Tinubu’s re-election ambition or weaken the APC’s grip on power.
The growing uncertainty has also triggered fresh calculations among opposition leaders, with reports of possible alliances and coalition talks aimed at unseating the ruling party in what could become Nigeria’s most dramatic electoral showdown in years.
Despite the pressure, APC supporters argue that Tinubu remains one of the country’s most experienced political strategists, capable of rebuilding momentum before the next general election.
