Fresh political tension has erupted inside the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following revelations that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, deliberately avoided picking the party’s 2027 presidential nomination form as part of a deeper internal strategy.
Political analyst Babajide Kolade-Otitoju says the move is not accidental, insisting it is a calculated political decision tied to ongoing backroom negotiations, zoning battles, and silent power alignments within the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, Makinde’s silence has now become a major political factor in the South-West, where he remains one of the strongest power brokers shaping delegate influence and party structure without officially entering the presidential contest.

Otitoju further explained that rising uncertainty in the PDP—driven by leadership struggles, regional balancing pressure, and emerging coalition talks—is forcing major stakeholders to hold back early declarations while strategic blocs quietly position themselves.
Political observers say Makinde’s decision has now intensified speculation within the party, with many believing his current posture could give him stronger leverage in post-primary negotiations and future alliance arrangements.
As the 2027 race slowly heats up, his absence from the nomination process is being interpreted not as withdrawal, but as a deliberate and calculated silence inside a deeply fractured political battlefield.
