Noheem Adams, the Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has clinched the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for Eti-Osa Constituency I in a landslide victory, trouncing his challenger, Saheed Bankole, in Wednesday’s primary election.
Adams polled 7,638 votes against Bankole’s 1,225, sweeping five of the six wards contested. The election in Ward J was declared inconclusive. The results, announced at Olomu Primary School in Ajah, position Adams strongly for a return to the Assembly in the 2027 general election.
Speaking after the collation of results, Adams described the outcome as a clear expression of the people’s will: “I feel great and honoured. It is the will of the people. It is democracy, and the people have spoken today.”
He noted that his re-election bid had already received endorsements from key party leaders, including those from the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), local government chairmen, and ward heads.
“All my constituents also converged two weeks ago to declare their support,” he added.
Adams revealed that appeals were made to his opponent to step down before the primary, but Bankole insisted on the contest. “Today, we have seen the result,” Adams said.
Providing a ward-by-ward breakdown, Adams highlighted his commanding lead:
· Ward A3: Over 2,000 votes vs. just above 200 for Bankole
· Ajah: 1,262 votes vs. minor votes for opponent
· Oniru: Over 2,500 votes vs. 143 for Bankole
· Overall, he claimed victory with about 92% of the total votes cast.
The Majority Leader commended party officials and security agencies for a peaceful and transparent process, noting that six Divisional Police Officers in the constituency had affirmed his victory. “I hope the will of the people will be sustained by the party,” he said.
Adams pledged to rally support for President Bola Tinubu, the APC governorship candidate, and other party candidates in the general election.
“The people have promised me that they will ensure I win the main election by 95%. I am assuring the President that this time around, we are going to win this place for him.”
