Residents of internally displaced persons (IDP) camps across Nigeria have openly criticized the federal government, urging officials to stop what they describe as “false assurances” about their return to ancestral homes.
The displaced communities, many of whom were forced out by years of insecurity and insurgency, expressed deep frustration over prolonged stays in camps with little clarity on resettlement plans. They called on authorities to be transparent, insisting that if returning home is not currently possible, the government should clearly communicate the reality.

According to camp residents, repeated promises of rehabilitation and reintegration have not materialized, leaving thousands in uncertainty. Many say they continue to face poor living conditions, limited access to basic services, and dwindling humanitarian support. The situation highlights the ongoing humanitarian strain in Africa’s most populous nation, where internal displacement remains a major challenge due to conflict, banditry, and communal violence in several regions.
Analysts warn that without clear policies and decisive action, the trust gap between affected populations and the government may widen further, potentially complicating long-term recovery and stability efforts.
