Senator Natasha Delivers High Speed Free Internet Hub for Okene Residents

Okene in Okene has officially recorded a new digital access milestone following the activation of a free 24/7 public internet hub located at Okene Club.

The initiative, attributed to the constituency development and outreach efforts of Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, provides high-speed internet access within a one-kilometre radius, available continuously to residents without subscription or usage fees.

The project is designed to function as a community connectivity point, enabling students, entrepreneurs, traders, and other residents to access online educational resources, digital business tools, communication platforms, and government services.

It is also expected to support mobile banking, remote work opportunities, and content creation activities, particularly among young people in the area.

Unlike many limited-hour public Wi-Fi installations, the Okene hub operates 24/7, making it a more persistent access point for digital engagement.

The development reflects growing emphasis on expanding internet penetration through constituency-level interventions aimed at complementing national broadband expansion efforts.

In this context, it is positioned as part of broader efforts to reduce digital exclusion in semi-urban communities where connectivity remains uneven.

Local observers note that improved internet access could have a ripple effect on economic activity around the Okene Club area, potentially increasing foot traffic and encouraging small-scale digital and service-based enterprises.

Education stakeholders also expect benefits for students preparing for examinations or engaging in online learning, while business users may gain improved access to e-commerce and financial platforms.

If properly maintained and scaled, the initiative could serve as a model for similar grassroots digital infrastructure projects across other constituencies, particularly in regions seeking cost-effective ways to expand public internet access and improve digital inclusion outcomes.
