British Prime Minister Under Fire as Multiple Ministers Resign in Drove from His Govt, and Here's Why

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is facing mounting political pressure after a series of ministerial resignations dealt another serious blow to his leadership.

The departures have intensified speculation about instability within the government and growing dissatisfaction inside the ruling party over Starmer’s direction and public standing.

The first resignation came from communities minister Miatta Fahnbulleh, who issued a sharply critical letter to the prime minister.

Fahnbulleh said the country was demanding meaningful political change but argued that the public no longer believed Starmer was capable of delivering it.

“The public does not believe that you can lead this change, and nor do I,” she wrote, making her one of the most senior figures yet to publicly withdraw support from the prime minister.

Her resignation was followed hours later by safeguarding minister Jess Phillips, a prominent Labour figure known for her outspoken advocacy on women’s safety and domestic abuse issues.

In her resignation statement, Phillips said that “deeds, not words matter,” suggesting frustration with the government’s failure to match promises with action.

The pressure on Starmer deepened further when Alex Davies-Jones also resigned from government.

In her letter, she urged the prime minister to “act in the country’s interest and set out a timetable for your departure,” a remark likely to fuel growing calls within the party for a leadership transition.

The latest resignation came from health minister Zubir Ahmed, who said the public had “irretrievably lost confidence” in Starmer’s leadership.

His departure adds to concerns that the prime minister is losing support not only among voters but also within his own ministerial ranks.

The wave of resignations comes at a politically sensitive moment for Starmer’s government, which has been struggling with declining public approval, internal party tensions, and criticism over its handling of key domestic issues including the economy, public services, and immigration.

Senior Labour figures have increasingly voiced concerns that the government has failed to deliver the scale of reform many voters expected after the party returned to power.

While Starmer has not indicated any intention to resign, the coordinated nature of the departures is likely to intensify pressure on Downing Street and could trigger broader discussions within Labour about the party’s future leadership ahead of the next general election.
