Tensions flared in West Bengal during the second phase of voting as fresh incidents of political violence were reported, raising concerns over election security in one of India’s most politically sensitive states.
Supporters of rival political parties clashed in several areas, with reports that a Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker was attacked while a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) polling booth was allegedly vandalised.
The situation quickly escalated, forcing security forces to intervene in multiple locations to restore order. Authorities say the violence disrupted parts of the voting process, although polling continued under heavy security presence.
Election officials have launched investigations into the incidents, while blaming both sides for escalating tensions.
