UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has narrowly avoided a parliamentary investigation after lawmakers voted down claims he misled MPs over the controversial appointment of Lord Peter Mandelson as ambassador to the United States.
The government secured victory by 335 votes to 223, but the rebellion of 14 Labour MPs exposed growing cracks inside Starmer’s party.
Opposition leader Kemi Badenoch accused Labour lawmakers of helping orchestrate a “cover up,” while Ed Davey said the prime minister had “ducked” scrutiny.
