Starmer Survives Explosive Parliament Showdown as UK PM Escapes Probe Over US Ambassador Appointment

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has narrowly avoided a parliamentary investigation after lawmakers voted down claims he misled MPs over the controversial appointment of Lord Peter Mandelson as ambassador to the United States.

The government secured victory by 335 votes to 223, but the rebellion of 14 Labour MPs exposed growing cracks inside Starmer’s party.

Opposition leader Kemi Badenoch accused Labour lawmakers of helping orchestrate a “cover up,” while Ed Davey said the prime minister had “ducked” scrutiny.

The row deepened after senior former officials claimed Downing Street ignored warnings over Mandelson’s past links and handling of the appointment process.

The dramatic clash has intensified political pressure on Starmer just days before key elections, raising fresh questions over transparency and leadership in Britain.
