Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is set to travel to the United Kingdom for a landmark state visit, becoming the first Nigerian leader to receive such an invitation from the British monarchy in nearly four decades. The visit, hosted by King Charles III, will take place at Windsor Castle and is expected to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.

President Tinubu will be accompanied by Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, as part of a two-day programme that includes ceremonial welcomes, meetings with British leaders, and discussions on trade, investment, and security cooperation.

The visit highlights the long-standing relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, a partnership shaped by shared history, strong diaspora connections, and growing economic links. Trade between the two countries reached billions of pounds in recent years, underscoring the importance of their strategic cooperation.

Tinubu will also become the fifth Nigerian leader to be honoured with a formal state visit by the British Crown, following earlier visits by leaders such as Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Yakubu Gowon, Shehu Shagari, and Ibrahim Babangida.
