Ghana Orders Emergency Evacuation of Citizens From Qatar Amid Rising Middle East Tensions

According to a report in Business Insider Africa, the Government of Ghana has initiated an emergency evacuation of its citizens in Qatar as security concerns escalate in the Middle East.

Business Insider Africa reports that the Ghanaian Embassy in Doha announced the directive on March 15, 2026, urging all Ghanaian nationals wishing to return home to submit the biodata pages of their passports to the embassy by March 17. Officials emphasized that the evacuation is a precautionary measure to protect lives amid growing geopolitical instability in the Gulf region.

The report notes that this decision comes after the embassy issued multiple advisories warning Ghanaians to remain indoors and maintain close contact with embassy officials due to rising tensions, including missile activity and other security threats affecting foreign residents in Qatar.

Business Insider Africa further highlights that Ghanaian citizens living, working, studying, or visiting Qatar are being asked to register with the embassy and follow all guidance until the situation stabilizes. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra is closely monitoring developments and coordinating logistics to ensure the safe and timely return of its nationals.

The evacuation underscores the broader impact of ongoing Middle East conflicts on foreign nationals and highlights Ghana’s proactive measures to safeguard its citizens abroad.
