Nigeria Faces Scrutiny as Togo Seeks Increased Electricity Supply Amid Domestic Power Challenges
Despite poor power supply to Nigerians and allegations of Aso Rock reportedly pulling out of the national grid, Togo has approached Nigeria for an increase in electricity supply, raising fresh concerns about the country’s energy priorities.
According to a report by TheCable, the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) disclosed that Togo is seeking more power from Nigeria to meet its growing energy demands.
The development comes at a time when many Nigerians continue to grapple with unstable electricity, frequent outages, and rising energy costs, sparking criticism over the export of power while domestic needs remain unmet.

The NDPHC, which manages assets under Nigeria’s National Integrated Power Project, stated that it is exploring opportunities to expand electricity export to neighboring countries, including Togo, as part of regional energy cooperation.
However, the move has triggered debate among citizens and stakeholders, who question why Nigeria would consider increasing supply abroad when millions at home still lack reliable access to electricity.
Analysts say while cross-border power trade can generate revenue and strengthen regional ties, it also highlights the urgent need for Nigeria to address its internal power distribution challenges and ensure stable supply for its population before expanding exports.
