Trader Speaks on the Struggle to Survive in Nigeria

The rising cost of living in Nigeria has made it difficult for many families to meet their daily needs, especially when their income is not enough to cover basic expenses.

Eze God's Praise, a trader at Ishieke Market in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, spoke to Next Africa Daily during a physical interview about the challenges Nigerians face in trying to make ends meet.

For many parents, providing food for their children, paying school fees, paying rent, and covering other household expenses can be difficult. Parents with five or six children may have even more responsibilities to manage with their available income.

Workers also face challenges as they spend money on transportation to and from work. Those earning low salaries may struggle to pay for transport, food, rent, and their children's education from the same income.

Traders are not left out of these difficulties. The cost of transporting goods can add to the expenses of running a business, making it important for business owners to manage their income and spending carefully.

Despite these challenges, many Nigerians continue to work hard because they have families and responsibilities to take care of. Some leave home early in the morning and return late in the evening, hoping to earn enough to meet their needs.

However, the situation raises questions about how much people can achieve when their earnings are barely enough to cover their basic expenses.

With the 2027 general elections approaching, the cost of living is an important issue that deserves attention. Nigerians need solutions that will help families, workers, and traders manage their daily expenses and improve their living conditions.

The experiences of people like Eze God's Praise highlight the importance of listening to ordinary citizens and understanding the challenges they face in their daily lives.
