In Nigeria today, many people work hard every day but still struggle to make ends meet. Some wake up early in the morning, open their shops, sell different products and do everything they can to provide for themselves and their families. Yet, at the end of the day, their efforts do not always produce the results they expect.
This raises an important question: why do some people work so hard but still find it difficult to succeed? I can remember an interview with a woman who explained how she had tried different businesses and continued putting in effort, but she was still not doing well. Her experience reflects the situation of many people who are working hard but struggling to see the results of their efforts.
However, in today's society, hard work alone may not be enough. People also need to understand the environment where they live and do business.
Before starting a business, it is important to study the area and understand the people living there. What do they need? What can they afford? What kind of business can survive in that environment? These are questions people should consider before investing their money.
Another important factor is financial management. A person may be making sales every day without knowing whether the business is actually making a profit. Understanding how much money comes in and how much goes out can help business owners know where their money is going.

Having a spending plan is also necessary. When people spend without calculating their income and expenses, they may find themselves working continuously without making meaningful progress. In Nigeria and other African countries, where economic challenges make survival difficult for many people, proper planning is especially important. Someone may struggle for years in a business without realising that the location, demand or cost of running that business is affecting the results.
However, we must also recognise that not every struggle comes from poor planning. Some hardworking people make reasonable decisions and still face challenges beyond their control. This is why we should not be quick to judge people who are struggling.
Sometimes, people need the right opportunity, a better environment and the grace of God to move forward. Hard work remains important, but understanding what to do, where to do it and how to manage available resources also matters.
The reality is that people cannot always measure success by the number of hours they spend working. What matters is whether their efforts are producing results and whether they are making progress towards their goals.
