2027 Countdown: Federal High Court Orders Weekend Registry Operations for Pre-Election Cases

Ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, the Federal High Court has directed its registries nationwide to remain open on weekends and public holidays exclusively for the filing of pre-election cases.

The directive, announced in a statement on Thursday by the court’s Chief Registrar, Yahaya Shafa, is aimed at complying with constitutional and statutory deadlines governing the filing and resolution of such matters.

“All legal practitioners are hereby informed that registries in all divisions of the Federal High Court will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on weekends and public holidays for filing pre-election matters only,” the statement read.

“This has become expedient to meet up with the limited time frame for filing pre-election matters.”

The move comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 polls, with many already conducting primaries for governorship, National Assembly, and state assembly positions.
