African Navies Rise As Nigeria’s Military Leadership Applauds Massive Transformation Of Strategic Naval Base

The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, through the Chief of Naval Engineering, Rear Admiral Baratuaipri Iyalla, has praised the Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship Delta, Commodore Abdulhamid Tasiu, and his team for driving major infrastructural and operational transformation at the naval base in Delta State.

The commendation came during the inauguration of several developmental projects aimed at strengthening operational readiness, improving personnel welfare, and boosting the Nigerian Navy’s strategic presence in the Niger Delta region.

Naval authorities described the projects as part of a broader modernization push within Nigeria’s maritime security architecture as Africa faces increasing concerns over oil theft, piracy, and economic sabotage across coastal waters.

The leadership noted that the transformation of the base reflects growing efforts by African military institutions to expand local capacity, modernize security infrastructure, and reinforce regional stability through sustainable development projects.

Speaking during the event, naval representatives emphasized that the newly completed projects would improve efficiency, enhance working conditions for officers and personnel, and support the Navy’s mission of protecting Nigeria’s economic assets and maritime corridors.

The Navy also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening professionalism, operational excellence, and strategic security cooperation across the Gulf of Guinea.
