Algeria bid farewell to former President Liamine Zéroual on Monday, laying the former military leader and head of state to rest with full military honors in his hometown of Batna.
Zéroual, who passed away at the age of 84 following a prolonged illness, was remembered as a stabilizing figure during a critical period in Algeria’s modern history.
The state funeral brought together top government officials, including current President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, senior military officers, political leaders, and citizens from across the country, all gathered to pay tribute to a man whose leadership was defined by his commitment to national unity and peace.
Flags flew at half-mast across Algeria and at diplomatic missions abroad as the nation observed three days of official mourning.
