Italian Serie A side Atalanta are reportedly preparing a move for Nigerian international defender Zaidu Sanusi, as the club look to reinforce their squad ahead of the new season.
The FC Porto left-back has emerged as a key target on Atalanta’s shortlist, with scouts said to be impressed by his European experience, defensive strength, and ability to drive forward from the flanks.
Early discussions are believed to have started as the Italian club evaluates options to strengthen their backline.
Sanusi, who has played an important role for Porto in domestic and European competitions, remains one of Nigeria’s most experienced full-backs in Europe.
Known for his pace, physicality, and work rate, he is seen as a player capable of adapting quickly to the demands of Serie A football.
While talks are still at an early stage, Atalanta are expected to intensify their interest if conditions become favorable in the coming weeks.
Porto, however, are not under pressure to sell, meaning any deal could depend on valuation and timing in the summer transfer window.
If the move goes through, Sanusi would become another Nigerian talent stepping into Italy’s top flight, adding to the growing influence of African players in Serie A and strengthening Atalanta’s reputation for smart recruitment.
