Why spend every Sunday ordering food when you can prepare a delicious traditional meal in your own kitchen? Cocoyam porridge is one of the traditional Nigerian meals that deserves more attention. It is tasty, filling, and can be prepared with ingredients that give it a rich, local flavour.
Today, some people prefer ordering food instead of cooking at home. There is nothing wrong with ordering a meal once in a while, but we should not forget the traditional dishes that have been part of our culture for generations.
This Sunday, why not make cocoyam porridge your special family meal? How to Prepare Delicious Cocoyam Porridge First, peel the cocoyam, wash it properly, and cut it into smaller pieces. Put it in a pot, add water, and cook until it becomes soft.
Next, add palm oil, sliced onions, pepper, and salt to taste. You can also add your preferred seasoning, depending on how you like your porridge.
For those who enjoy the traditional Igbo style, akidi can be another special addition. Depending on your preference, you can also include smoked fish, stockfish, or meat to give the meal more flavour.
Allow the ingredients to cook together so the flavours can blend. You can mash a few pieces of the softened cocoyam into the liquid to help thicken the porridge. Finally, add your vegetables, if desired, and allow everything to cook until ready.
