Nigeria’s 2027 Race Heats Up as Powerful Regional Bloc Rallies Behind Tinubu and Key Allies

A major political force in southern Nigeria has intensified momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the Oron political bloc in Akwa Ibom State publicly declared support for President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno.

The endorsement underscores a growing wave of coordinated political backing within the oil-rich region, where influential groups are aligning early to shape the next electoral cycle. Similar endorsements from traditional rulers and grassroots stakeholders have been emerging across the state, reflecting a broader consolidation of support for the trio’s continued leadership.

Beyond political support, the Oron bloc is also pushing for the immediate implementation of the UMSO initiative, a key development framework seen as critical to regional growth, inclusion, and economic advancement. Leaders of the bloc emphasized that their endorsement is rooted in perceived developmental strides and policy direction at both federal and state levels.

They argued that continuity in leadership would help sustain ongoing projects and unlock further investment opportunities in the Niger Delta region. The move highlights how local political alliances are becoming decisive in Nigeria’s evolving electoral landscape, with regional blocs increasingly acting as kingmakers in national politics.

As 2027 approaches, analysts say such endorsements signal early coalition-building efforts that could significantly influence voter mobilization and power dynamics across Africa’s most populous democracy.
