Leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State, southwest Nigeria, have strongly dismissed allegations of an attempted takeover of the party’s internal structure, insisting that its leadership remains intact amid rising political tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The state’s ADC chairmen across local government areas rejected claims that external actors or rival factions are positioning themselves to hijack the party’s organizational framework. They described the allegations as misleading and aimed at creating confusion within the party.
The development comes at a time when the ADC in Oyo has been grappling with internal disagreements, including disputes over leadership roles tied to its membership registration and revalidation exercise.
Party officials reaffirmed that only the duly recognized leadership, backed by the national body, has the authority to manage party affairs in the state. They warned against parallel structures or unauthorized committees, stressing that such actions undermine party unity and democratic principles.

The chairmen emphasized that the ADC’s strength lies in its grassroots structure across all 33 local government areas in Oyo State, noting that party members have invested significant effort and resources to build a credible political alternative.
They also called on members and supporters to remain calm and focused, urging anyone involved in activities outside the recognized structure to return to the fold and support the party’s collective goals. The dispute reflects broader tensions within Nigeria’s opposition landscape, where parties are repositioning and consolidating ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Despite the controversy, Oyo ADC leaders maintain that the party remains united and resilient against any attempt to destabilize its leadership.
